Kilnside Energy Park
Introducing Kilnside
Kilnside is a proposed solar farm with battery storage located to the northwest of Great Casterton in Rutland. It is being developed by Aukera and would generate clean, domestically-produced power for use by homes and businesses, contributing to our energy security and reducing our reliance on expensive fossil fuels.
Project News
The project is currently at an early stage of development. Earlier this summer, we hosted two introductory Q&A webinars to share initial information and answer questions.
In October 2025, we engaged directly with elected representatives and local residents living near the proposed site to begin conversations around the early design of the project. This engagement took the form of Design Workshops, where we presented our draft masterplan and other supporting materials. Participants were invited to provide feedback on our initial design principles and emerging design proposals, helping to shape the direction of the project from the outset.
We are currently reviewing the feedback received at the Design Workshops and exploring what design changes we can make to our illustrative masterplan in response.
We plan to return for a full Statutory Consultation in early 2026. At this stage, we will be able to provide more detailed information about the design of the solar farm, our environmental assessment work and a range of related issues.

We will shortly begin issuing documents called Land Interest Questionnaires (LIQ) to people with an interest in land adjacent to the proposed development site, and in areas we are considering for the cable route to connect Kilnside to the National Grid. These documents will be issued by a company called Ardent and are likely to focus on different locations in stages over the coming weeks.
This process is called ‘Land Referencing’ and is a key part of a DCO project, as we need to make sure that we have identified all legal interests in land affected by the proposals. This is to ensure that they are properly represented in the planning process and kept informed about Kilnside – including as part of the consultation on our proposals.
We will be issuing these documents to confirm that we have correctly identified the relevant tenant, homeowner or landowner. If this is not the case, it is most likely that HM Land Registry is out of date – please let us know if this is the case and we will update our records accordingly.
If you have received an LIQ and are unsure whether it applies to you, please complete the questionnaire and we will be in touch to discuss.
Development process
Kilnside Energy Park is classed as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) because it would generate more than 50 megawatts (MW) of electricity. Given the scale of the contribution that Kilnside would make to the UK’s energy supply, applications for NSIPs are determined at a national level rather than by local authorities. Consultation is an important part of the development process.
